Nebraska Humane Society's Walk for the Animals 2008

The girls decided they needed to help animals in Nebraska - after all, it is where Rufus lives now! Ann first went to the Nebraska Humane Society with the Braille School's camp last summer, and was so impressed, she decided to help support it.....and yes, the annual Walk for the Animals is an awesome event!

We got a postcard in the mail reminding us to register and get pledges.

We arrived about 9:30 - not bad considering construction detours! The line was HUGE around the Pancake Man

But the line was quiet around the registration area.

Priscilla and Lisa Marie are checked in and ready to go!

The girls enjoy the quiet for a bit longer...

....because it's CRAZY in the event field! A couple of border collies greet us as we enter.

Prissy and Gracie decide they can be the welcome committee!

Look, Gracie....here comes another dog!

The girls mill around to check out the booths

They sniffed around a lot - there were all kinds of aromas to investigate..

Dogs ready for adoption from the shelter were introduced to the crowd!

Priscilla and Gracie wonder if they need another sibling...

Gracie checks out the available puppies...

We wait for the start of the walk.

Priscilla enjoys a beautiful Sunday morning.

Look! Another Border Collie!

Look! A cute puppy!

Gracie checks out the information booth

There are all kinds of animals here!

Priscilla wonders if the walk will ever get started.

Gracie looks at the line for the vendor booths - we tried three times to see the vendors - too many people in line, and moving too slowly. Forget it.

Priscilla reminds everyone how cute she is

....it it time yet??

Gracie flirts with yet another dog...

The walk begins with the release of homing pigeons

...symbolic that we want all animals to return home...

...and today is all about forever homes!

The adoptables and NHS Alumni dogs begin the walk

We start moving toward the start line

Now any dog who wants can walk over the stage.

Stage?? Forget about it! Let's walk!!

Gracie flirts again as we start walking

Let's go!

We take to the streets....

...over the grass

...following the signs

Wow! What a bunch of puppies!

Border Collies don't like to be behind...

....so they start moving up through the crowd

Looks like only one dog can read the sign....

The girls stop to look over the crowd!

Well, let's keep passing people and puppies...

The girls enjoy walking on the grass

Prissy tells Gracie what the sign says...

Keep moving, girls!!

Gracie's friend says "hi"

Moving around a pack of dogs

Hi, everyone...time for a photo opportunity!

Look at the crowd up ahead!

Gracie tells Priscilla to catch up!!

Rounding a corner...

This is where we turn around and head back!!

The girls make quite a team

Wait a minute! Are they really dogs??

Walkers are going both directions!

Gracie and Prissy have only a few more dogs to move around!

Over the grass...

...back to the sidewalk....

....through the park....

....look for the sign to turn....

There it is! Let's go!

Great! Head down, then up the hill

...over the bridge

...down the lawn to the parking lot...

Hooray! Let's get back to the start line!

The girls are proud of their speed walking...

Priscilla tells everyone about it!

Oooh! Cool shades!

After checking the vendor line (still too long) we head back to the car

Priscilla suggests one last stop....

We head back to the shelter

Check out the map....yes, there it is....

Over here....

See the tent...there's not much of a line!

I smell pancakes!

We finally get some pancakes (and sausage!) to share. What a fun day...sausage, treats, squeaky toys...it must be Puppy Heaven!!
